Academic Program

An individualized curriculum is designed to maximize the learning style of each child within an integrated-day program that emphasizes experiential learning and also uses traditional approaches. The interdisciplinary course of studies for grades One through Eight includes mathematics; literature; language arts; history; science; performing, creative, and fine arts; Spanish; yoga; and outdoor education. In addition to the standard curriculum base, our students also engage in a broad range of special projects such as the below collaboration with The MacDowell Colony and our 7th grade class.

We are committed to recess as a valuable part of our day in every season. Children engage in pick-up games such as kickball, soccer, wiffleball, and Capture the Flag. It is a time to expand their physical world, as essential as the time spent expanding their intellectual world in the classroom.

Each day, week, month, and year at Mountain Shadows has within it a rhythm and a plan that balances work and play.
